Dennis Hawk is a life-time guitar player who has also been crafting Native American style flutes for more than 20 years. As a guitarist he is familiar with the use of Cedar wood for instruments because this wood translates into a sense of sonic warmth. Each flute is handcrafted by Dennis using Aromatic Cedar from the foothills of Stone Mountain, GA for the warm tone and the beauty it offers.
The flutes offered in this series are in E minor pentatonic, a guitar player's dream: E, G, A, B, and D. Each flute is tuned to A440 with some slight variation. The pitch of each note depends on the force of air that you project into the flute. The pitch variation, with the amount of forced air, gives the player ability to slide into notes in a blues fashion. The decay at the end of a note or phrase is haunting. Whether you use your flute for performance with your band or for personal meditation, the warm sound will take you or your audience to a pleasant musical landscape.
There are four different animal totems that fit on top of the flute to channel the air. The four choices are Eagle, Wolf, Buffalo and Bear. Each animal has its own significance in Native American culture. But for yourself, what is most important is which animal do you identify with?
Your flute does not need special care. Each flute is treated with a European lacquer that gives it a luster that parallels the sound.
